John 18:1-11, The Arrest of Jesus

The Arrest of Jesus Text:  John 18:1-11 There are three lessons we learned in this first sermon series.  (1)  Jesus loves the world; (2) Jesus protects the church; (3)  Jesus blesses His enemies.  Jesus knew about his coming death.  He didn't hide it nor run away from it.  This is a good lesson to learn that no matter how much difficulty we face, we push through, and God allows us to persevere.   Look at these verses on how Jesus contemplated on his death:   ·        Mark 9:30-32 - He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it. ·        Matthew 20:17-19 - Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and wil

Church In Action

When God called the Israelites to settle down, he placed them in what God called "the promised land." He wasn't kidding at all! The spies who assessed the land called it "a land flowing with milk and honey." Geologists categorize this desert place as a "fertile" crescent. It is a crescent shape piece of land that is both rich and productive. In the middle of the desert!!!  God has called the church the same way. As a living organism, we are called to be fertile and multiply. Jesus' marching orders were: "Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations."  In Acts 13:1-3, we discover four axiom statements that made the first Christian church in Antioch fertile and ready for multiplication. They are:  1. Come and See  2. Wait and Hear  3. Go and Tell  4. Listen and Obey  Discussion:   Spiritual pregnancy, just like any other pregnancies, comes with a price. But are we willing to invest in people to make disciples?  W

Developing Good Relationship

Image
Every relationship is a potential place for evangelism, it is also a place of discipleship.  Simply put, "good relationships mean I point everyone to Jesus whoever follows me."  Galatians 6:2 in summary says, that helping a person connects people to Christ.     Galatians 6:2, you obey the law of Christ when you offer each other a helping hand Who are the people around me that I need to point to Jesus?  What is their primary spiritual need?  Do they need to get saved first, or are do they need to be discipled?   Jesus models to us In John 5:1-15 whom to reach out to...  In a busy place (v.2)  Opposite in kind Different in belief In summary, here are the lessons we learn from Jesus Jesus reached out to the outcast He put up with people who had misplaced faith  Jesus left room for interruptions Jesus willingly faced harsh criticism.   Question for discussion:  Which of the above would you need help to be an effective witness? Not all relationships can easily be handled.  But all
