The Word of God

The ability of God’s Living, Powerful, Sharp Word: (Hebrews 4:12) For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. a. Living: (John 6:63b) “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (Mat 4:4) But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" b. Powerful: •  (1 Th 2:13) For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. c. Sharp: d. Divides Soul and Spirit: •  (John 6:63a) “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits no

Breaking Walls To Advance God's Kingdom

Image
Walls are helpful.  They secure and keep the bad elements out.  However, in an organization walls can impede and slow down progress.   Walls of tradition - we've never done it before that way, walls of doubt - we don't have enough to make that happen, and walls of apathy - maybe i can skip church this sunday, these are some walls that needs to be broken down.   When God was about to settle His children to the promised land, He led Joshua and the Israelites how to overcome the great walls of Jericho.  Here are three things that displayed the majesty and greatness of God. The Presence of God.  Joshua 5:13-15.  Joshua was ready to do his own thing, but God had greater plans.  He is neither for them or his enemies.    First, the General Joshua had to know who the real person in charge is - I am the captain of the army of the Lord .  Second, General Joshua need to nurture his relationship with God through worship - take off your sandals .  Before he can break any walls, he

Leadership and Evanglism: Ed Stetzer

Notes on Evangelism and Leadership:  What excuses have you heard why Christian's don't evangelize... I like evangelism as long as someone else is doing it .   I don't have a gift of evangelism.   There's no gift of evangelism in the bible, but there's an evangelist, who is a gift to the church.  An evangelist is someone God uses to help God's people to share their faith.   Evangelism is not a gift for  SOME  believers,  it's a responsibility for ALL believers.  Evangelism is not a gift for SOME believers, it's a responsibility for ALL believers.   And that includes Leaders.   Leaders ought to be evangelistic:   "You can't lead what you don't live." You can't lead what you don't live. Illustration:  Bill Hybels, He uses his sailboat as a ministering tool and evangelistic tool.  What's your sailboat.   Evangelism is difficult.   We can do outreach. we can do Christian Mercy M

10. Leviticus and the Holiness of God Today we are going to look at the book of Leviticus Third book in OT Instructions given to Moses along with the Ten Commandments At first glance, strange book with strange regulations about strange things Sacrifice animals Ox gores someone a  second  time Special festivals Not the core themes of Leviticus 1. Leviticus is consumed with the holiness of God — separate from sin 18:2-4; 19:18 2. He expects his people to more like him than like the world  3. If fail: God is a forgiving, merciful God CENTER IN ON THE SACRIFICES Same basic procedure — 1:3-9 (supply antecedents) — four things  Without blemish — “Pleasing” (Forgiveness is granted, cf. 4:20) Clear that the one bringing the sacrifice is a participant, not an observer Sinner hand and kills/skins/hacks / washes the sacrifice  Some sacrifices: blood sprinkled on sinner Sinner is responsible for his own sin —participant (not meaningless  ritual) THEME #1:
