Five Layers of Conversation For Evangelism

Image
Good conversations can lead to gospel sharing.   Unless you have been invited in, it is difficult to introduce Jesus.  Here are some ways on how to lead a conversation to the gospel.   It is not necessary to follow this sequentially, but these layers may lead to deeper communication that eventually may open the opportunity for gospel sharing.  Layer 1:  Hello!  This first layer is "breaking the ice."  While not all conversations do not have to start here, most effective conversations appreciate a cordial introduction.   A hello can be followed by any conversation starter like "what a good weather we have today" or "did you just see that crazy driver?"    Layer 2:   "How is everything?"  or "How are you doing?"  This level allows a soft way for others to open up.  Nothing pointed.  This is not interrogation but just a casual, "what's up?" It also helps determine what areas the conversation can focus on.   Level 3:  Pointed

Funeral For Dorothy Williams

Topic:  The Blessed Assurance  Introduction:   I was talking to my wife about Dorothy the other day.  She just couldn't place her until I mentioned that every time we set up for the afternoon church, Dorothy would be sitting on a chair waiting for her ride giving everyone a smile as they pass by.   I am so glad we heard from Will today the great adventures his mother had in this world.    Today, I want to talk to you about the blessed assurance of our lives.   Just like Dorothy, there's a reason why we can bear a smile even when life is difficult.   Let me read to you this famous bible verse story, a conversation between Jesus and his disciples in regards to the present and to the future.    John 14:1-6 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you

Pray for Lahaina, Maui

The tragedies of life are upon us all the time.   It's part of nature and it is in creation.  Where is God in all of these?  He is here and He has never left us.   It is in these sufferings we will see God's beauty and grandeur. "All things work together for good to them that love God and to them who are the called according to his purpose."  Romans 8:28  There are no words to explain the tragedy that had visited Lahaina Maui in the past few days.   The fire has left a town leveled to the ground.   Jesus reminds us to clothe the naked and to feed the hungry (Matt. 25:35-36).   Helping Lahaina Maui is a top priority for FBC of Wahiawa.   Here is how you can help: 1.  Pray that God gives hope to the weary and timely help to those in need.   The updated prayer request is available below.   2.  Donate Money - Your money can expedite the help necessary on the ground.  Give this Sunday or go to our website for online giving. 3.  Give in Kind - Honolulu Convention Center w

Making Sure We Really Welcome Everyone

Devin Maddox of Baptist Press wrote an article entitled, "10 Ways To Make Guests Feel Welcome" which is timely and a great reminder for all of us.  Here is the article from the Baptist Press post.   People never get a second-chance at a first impression. Neither do churches. My family recently visited a church (no, it wasn’t your church) and were able to get in and out undetected. Had it not been for our toddler’s need for childcare, we could have avoided human contact altogether. Needless to say, we didn’t feel very welcome. Nearly everything about a Sunday morning worship service communicates something to first-time guests. From the church bulletins to the parking lot layout, churches demonstrate how much—or how little—they care about people. Here are some things I learned from my last church visit. Create a culture of hospitality –  Hospitality is not just for Martha Stewart types. In fact, the Bible exalts hospitality as a godly virtue (3 John) for all believers. Emphasi

Being Grateful Is A Good Choice - Luke 17:11-19

Image
There is a saying that goes, 'Gratitude turns what we have into enough.' (Ang may pusong pasasalamat, nakikita niya ang lahat ng bagay ay sapat.) These words hold profound meaning (malalim) in our fast-paced and often demanding lives. Today, I stand before you to talk about a quality (katangian) that has the power to transform our outlook, enrich our relationships, and bring us genuine happiness — the power of gratitude. Let me begin by sharing a personal story. A few years ago, I found myself caught in the whirlwind of everyday stress and worries. It seemed like I was always chasing something more, something better. But then, a chance encounter with an elderly woman changed my perspective entirely. As we sat and talked, she shared her life experiences, her struggles, and the wisdom she had gained along the way. What struck me the most was her unwavering gratitude for even the simplest things — a warm cup of tea, a friendly smile, or a beautiful sunrise. Her gratitude, despite
